The Story
Common name: Peace Lily ‘Bellini’
Latin name: Spathiphyllum ‘Bellini’
Best position in the home: Thrives in bright, indirect light but will tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, or offices, and does particularly well in slightly more humid rooms like bathrooms.
Water requirements: Keep the soil consistently lightly moist, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Peace Lilies will droop when thirsty, making it easy to tell when they need a drink. Reduce watering in winter and avoid waterlogging. Enjoys moderate humidity.
Home impact: Peace Lilies are loved for their elegant white blooms and lush green foliage, bringing a calm, fresh feel to any space. They are often associated with improving indoor air quality, though effects are modest in typical home settings. Not pet-friendly, as they are toxic if ingested.
Potential height at full growth: Typically grows to around 40–60cm indoors, with a similar spread.
How to look after it: Place in bright, indirect light or partial shade. Water regularly to keep soil lightly moist but not soggy. Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertiliser. Wipe leaves to keep them dust-free and encourage healthy growth. Repot every couple of years or when rootbound.
Beginner friendliness 4/5
Easy Going! Peace Lilies are generally easy to care for and forgiving, clearly showing when they need water. With the right light and regular watering, they reward you with beautiful blooms and lush foliage.
The ‘Bellini’ variety is known for its compact growth and abundant flowering. Remove spent flowers to encourage more blooms. Yellowing leaves can be a sign of overwatering or poor drainage.
